An accident waiting to happen....

are what these signs are!
what we have here is the stop sign symbol placed on a white flag.
then these flags are placed every 20 feet or so in a local strip mall parking lot.
I counted 4 in front of one store.
These flags are a good foot taller than the standard stop sign.
do you know how many cars I observed slamming on their brakes as they realized too late what they were? or those who didn't notice them at all?
somebody's going to get hurt.

are they actually stop signs for the parking lot?

yes, and because they are not the standard shape or height no one seems to notice them, or at least notices them too late.

And as it is not an "official" sign can people get ticketed for not obeying it? I cannot just make a sign and put it out in front of my house and expect it to be enforced.

Sounds like a good idea, safety, poorly executed!

Lisa - I work by that mall and stop there often. I couldn't agree more with you! Also, because there are so many signs placed close, many people just choose to ignore all of them. There is no order, no right of way - I agree, someone will get hurt.....

i wonder what the city was thinking? or would it be the owners of the strip mall?

R, I'm not sure about the ticket thing. unless they get a warning from those "roaming rent-a-cops" you sometimes see around the malls.

Tammy, isn't that ridiculous? I thought the short stop signs were bad enough and now they have these.

Julie, someone's idea to save money maybe? I'm curious now and am looking into it.

This is an accident and a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I agree with Trav. Most states have a uniform code for road signs and pavement markings. I bet this indeed is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Cheers Lisa!!

Trav and Matt-man - it seems parking lots might be exempt from standard signs. I've also seen "stop" written on the pavement as well as those little dinky stop signs.

hmmm my question is - why did they put the signs up so high? Are they thinking shoppers are all out in monster trucks these days? lol

Logic would say to put normal stop signs at eye level. Who the hell is looking up at the sky while they drive around a carpark???
