Manic Monday Blow

Blow is the word for today from Mo at It's a Blog Eat Blog World.

I tried my hand (er, mouth) at glass blowing 2 summers ago at the Corning Museum of Glass.

Glassblowing is the process of forming glass into useful shapes while the glass is in a molten, semi-liquid state. A person who blows glass is called a glassblower, glasssmith, or gaffer.

You attach your mouth to the other end of this rod and blow.
HARD.

and the finished glass blown vase......

The Corning Museum of Glass is nestled in the Fingerlakes wine country, the scenery is beautiful and there are some exellent wineries to visit should you ever have a chance to head that way.

What a wonderful idea for the word ! It's an art I admire, have seen it in Venice (Italy).
At least I am not blown away from your blog. My hair is in all directions from all the windy blogs !

Wow, that's awesome. Something so beautiful is made even more special because you were the one who made it.

Happy Monday!

If you get a chance to come to Tacoma, WA, we have the "Museum of Glass". They give classes in glass blowing as well as displaying great glass art and selling beautiful glass objects.

Lisa, I'm blown away with the awesomeness of your vase. What a cool thing to do, blow glass. A great post for Manic Monday.

Before I blow out of here, thanks for visiting my blog today.

That is one impressive vase and i still haven't seen a rude 'blow' theme yet, a nude ass was the closest!

When I was very little we lived in up state NY and visited the Corning Museum and factory. It made a profound impression on me and my life. I am a total glass crazy. I collect paperweights...among other things.

thanks for stirring up those memories!

That is SO cool! How awesome is it that you have something like that from your experience!
We had a glass-blowing facility at the college I went to, but I never took the class. I sat up on the arts building many nights, though, watching them blow glass at night. Very cool.
I always laughed at the first words the instructor said with a new class: "Whatever you do, always BLOW. Never inhale."

cheers,
manic mo

I have always been fascinated by people who do glass blowing. I have never tried it as I would end up with something weird.

Good post.

Later Y'all
