Manic Monday

The manic monday word for today is "Orange"
This was an easy one for me as I grew up near Syracuse, NY and worked at Syracuse University for 9 years. SU's team colors are blue and orange and our school mascot is "the orange"

But I thought, that's too easy.

So I chose something else to post about today.
What I visulize when I think of orange.

The Gates at Central Park.
An installation by Christo and Jean Claude.

It was February of 2005 and I tooke our 3 boys to NYC for the first time. It was a wonderful weekend and a great visual experience. Here are two photos from that weekend.

Manic Monday Green

You say green, I say Irish.
We have a great Irish community in our city.
The Irish section on the west end of town is called Tipperary Hill.
We boast such pubs as Rosie O'Grady's, Nibsy's Pub, McNamara's Pub, Coleman's Pub and The Blarney Stone.
This light sits on Tipperary Hill.
Green on top
Red on the bottom.
Here's the scoop on how the light came to be.
When the city first started to install traffic lights in the 1920's they put one at a major intersection on Tipperary Hill, on the corner of Tompkins Street and Milton Avenue. Some Irish youths, incensed that anyone would dare to put the "British" red above the "Irish" green, broke the light. The city replaced it but the Irish broke the replacement. After a few rounds of this the city decided that if they wanted a light at that intersection, they had better put the signal up inverted, and so they did, and so it stayed.

Now raise that glass of green beer and say "Sláinte"! (to your health)

and go visit Mo at it's a blog eat blog world to see how everyone else interpreted the word "green".

Manic Monday Chip

Chip is the word for today's manic monday. To see all Manic Monday participants visit It's" a Blog Eat Blog World .

Yesterday we had a post St. Patrick's day dinner party. Corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, shepards pie, irish soda bread, etc. The house smelled of Irish goodness.

But to start us off I made a non Irish buffalo chicken wing dip.
and served it with tortilla chips.

Recipe is below.
If you've never had it, try it.
It will soon become a favorite.

4 boneless chicken breasts, pre cooked and shredded
1 cup ranch dressing
1 12 oz container cream cheese
1 cup Hot Sauce (I use Franks)
8 oz shredded cheddar or taco cheese

Mix all ingredients together and microwave for 7 minutes on high or bake in 350 oven until hot and bubbly.

Serve with celery sticks or tortilla chips.

Manic Monday Blow

Blow is the word for today from Mo at It's a Blog Eat Blog World.

I tried my hand (er, mouth) at glass blowing 2 summers ago at the Corning Museum of Glass.

Glassblowing is the process of forming glass into useful shapes while the glass is in a molten, semi-liquid state. A person who blows glass is called a glassblower, glasssmith, or gaffer.

You attach your mouth to the other end of this rod and blow.
HARD.

and the finished glass blown vase......

The Corning Museum of Glass is nestled in the Fingerlakes wine country, the scenery is beautiful and there are some exellent wineries to visit should you ever have a chance to head that way.
