Women choose, men can't refuse.
Traditionally, on the Island of Orango off the coast of Guinea-Bissau, it is the women who propose marriage and once they have, men are powerless to say no.
At the tender age of 14, a girl enters her chosen's grass covered hut and places a plate of steaming fish in front of him. Eating the fish, marinated in red palm oil, lets her know he accepts the proposal. No is really not an option though, to say no would be to dishonor his family.
But now the modern world is starting to encroach upon the secluded island. Men are running after women. Traditionalists say for a man to go so far as to openly propose marriage is dangerous. The choice of a woman is much more stable. With men choosing, divorce has become common.

lol. it is a total bliss...
i wish they still practice this to avoid marriage proposal from the wrong ones(and wish the same scenario happened here)! ..

I suspect it's because women tend to think with their **brains**.

It's sad that their culture is going to hell. Women are much better equipped to make decisions... on marriage and pretty much everything... hahaha
