The Earth from Above

I was tidying up my netscape bookmarks this morning
and came across a link to Yann-Arthus Bertrand.org

One of his project's the "Earth from above" is an
in depth study testifying to the geographical
and historical reality of our planet from an unexpected angle.
Seen from the air, the Earth reveals its striking beauty
as well as the problematic traces left by the development of our societies.
Seen from above, towns and country, men and beasts are
suddenly one with the landscape and share in the same destiny.

Selected for its aesthetic and pedagogical value,
each photo taken then becomes the object of a commentary
written by a scientist, so as to provide the information
necessary to a full understanding of the visual testimony.

It is worth it to click the link above
and look at what has been put together.

When this was first completed, it was, I believe a travelling exhibit and was shown here in Grant Park in Chicago.

Thanks for posting such an interesting subject. It's interesting how easy it is to never think of views like that in our daily lives. It's interesting how being so upclose with something can take away our ability to imagine things as a bigger picture. It's funny how this applies to more than just aerial views of landscapes! Ha! See how intuitive your post was, even if inadvertantly?

Thanks! Can't wait to see you this week!

Lucky you R, getting to see it.

M - That is so true. What drew me to the project was the photography but what keeps me going back is the story behind each photograph and that big picture.

C - cool! glad you stopped by
